Post Doc Researcher with PhD in Geology or Earth Sciences with emphasis in Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS
The Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies - Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (IMS-FORTH) announces a Post-Doc scholarship for scholars that want to participate in the implementation of the project PEFYKA of Action KRIPIS of the General Secretary for Research and Tehcnology. The project deals with development of new technologies for the improvement of environmental quality and the particular Post-Doc will be employed for the materialization of the Work Package "Location of Olive Oil Mill Wastes through the analysis and processing of satellite imagery".
Research objectives
The research objectives of the post include correction and photointerpretation of satellite images, the processing and interpretation of satellite and hyperspectral technologies for environmental applications, the delivery of lectures in international seminars that will be organized by IMS-FORTH, the active participation in the publications of the project's results in international peer reviewed journals and conferences. Candidates need to have a strong stimulus and be able to collaborate and interact constructively within an international team with various disciplines.
Necessary Requirements:
1. PhD in Geology or Earth Sciences with emphasis in Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS.
2. Participation in a number of research projects of satellite remote sensing and GIS.
3. Publications in peer review journals and/or international conferences.
4. Experience in the digital image processing and interpretation of satellite and hyperspectral technologies for environmental applications.
5. Knowledge of GIS (e.g. ArcGIS), processing of satellite imagery (e.g. Erdas, ENVI, Idrisi, Image Station Model Setup etc), and topographic mapping through GPS and post processing of GPS data.
6. Very good knowledge of English.
Location: Rethymno, Crete, Greece
Contract duration / Salary: The duration of the post is 10-11 months with monthly gross salary 1900 Euro. We should emphasize that the goal of the Laboratory of Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment, IMS-FORTH is to invest in long-term collaborations with promising scientists and scholars that they will participate in future funded projects. The successful candidate is expected to start by November 1st, 2014.

Review of Applications

4. Please note that the call for proposals for a contract for the lease of this project is not competitive, while any option counterparty has the character of acceptance of a proposal rather than "hiring".
5. The applicants selected will be notified personally for the acceptance of the contract as well as for submitting the original certifications (or certified copies of them). In case the original documents do not match the copies that have been submitted with the application, the applicant is dismissed from the application procedure.
6. FORTH reserves the right to accept or not the submitted applications.

Β) The results of the review and evaluation procedure will be published on the web page of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (http://www.ims.forth.gr).
C) Any objections to the results of the candidates' evaluation should be presented strictly within five (5) working days from the day following the announcement of the results on the website IMS (www.ims.forth.gr).
