The Archive of Ottoman History of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies includes, among material collected from research projects in the field of the same name, a digital collection of Ottoman yearbooks of the Balkan and island provinces of the Ottoman Empire from the second half of the twentieth century. as well as a small archival collection of the beginning of the 20th century by the Directorate of Muslim Religious Institutions of Rethymno (receipts of payments).

Thanks to the sponsorship of the Alexandros S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, the IMS Library has a digital collection of Ottoman almanacs (salname) of the Balkan and island provinces of the Ottoman Empire. These are 87 volumes of the second half of the nineteenth century, which offer valuable information about the provinces of Edirne, islands of the Northeast Aegean, Crete, Thessaloniki, Ioannina and Monastiri (Bitola).

In the framework of IMS research programs under the direction of Christos Loukos, a rich material has been collected from archives, published sources, bibliography, newspaper indexing, etc. It concerns especially Ermoupolis but also other cities and islands of the Greek state during the 19th and 20th century. the refugees from Crete during the 19th century, Rethymno, Asia Minor, Athens during the Occupation, etc., and is part of the themes of the history of cities, family, demography, epidemics and public health. Much of the information in the archival material has been fed into databases, which can be accessed online from the IMS-FORTH website.

The Archive of Economic and Social History of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies consists of archival material related to the economic policy of the Greek state during the post-war years, economic archives of the dictatorship of 1967-74, private archival collections related to Greek industrial and shipping companies of the tenth ninth and twentieth century, themes of the history of cities in Greece during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its total size exceeds 50,000 items (including: official notes, financial reports, correspondence, financial and official business documents). In addition, IMS has archival material from previous programs in Russian, especially (but also in Turkish, English, French and Italian) for the port cities of the Black Sea.

N.I. Collection Makarezou
The digital copy of the archive collection of Nikolaos I. Makarezos, a product of a family donation, contains various administrative and financial documents (official notes, financial reports, etc.), administrative and service correspondence, incoming and outgoing letters, press releases, etc. The economic policy of the Greek state, the Greek Diaspora, etc. The majority of the documents concern the seven-year dictatorship, and consequently the 1960s and 1970s. The total of the digitized files amounts to about 450 files containing more than 25,000 documents.

Collection of financial records from the period of the dictatorship (1967-1974)
The collection covers the entire period of the dictatorship of the colonels with three main sections: The first section contains economic and statistical data that shed light on aspects of the economic policy of the period, with emphasis on budgeting, fiscal policy, industrialization and public works . The second includes information on regional policy, local issues and local government organization. The third section includes cabinet minutes and documents on the fiscal situation, oil policy, Greek-Turkish competition, as well as official notes, reports and studies on various other issues.

Collection of Evrydiki Sifneos
The Collection of Evrydiki Sifneos (1957–2015), director of research of the National Research Foundation, includes the archives of the commercial and shipping house of the Sifneos brothers, based in Constantinople and Piraeus. The material of the collection is a product donated by the family, and, among other things, includes financial documents and records related to the family businesses, shares, commercial and private correspondence of the family. The archival collection covers the activities of three generations of the Sifnaios family, from the 1840s to the 1940s. Utilizing material from the collection, Evrydiki Sifneos wrote the book Έλληνες έμποροι στην Αζοφική. Η δύναμη και τα όρια της οικογενειακής επιχείρησης [Greek merchants in the Azov. The power and limits of the family business], Institute of Modern Greek Research, National Research Foundation, 2009.

Sotiris Sofianopoulos Collection (CHROPEI industry)
The archive collection of Sotiris Sofianopoulos (CHROPEI), a product donated by the family, contains about 400 folders with corporate correspondence, financial and official documents of CHROPEI, tables of chemical analyzes, technical studies, brochures, press clippings, etc. The time frame of the report documents are the 1960s and 1970s. The file is under classification.

The Maritime History Archive of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies includes thousands of archival documents in printed and digital form from notarial archives, archives of shipping companies, sailors and masters from various seaports of the country. It also includes reprints of articles, scientific papers, etc., on maritime history.

Collection of Gelina Harlaftis
The archive collection of Gelina Harlaftis consists of three distinct bodies: the archive of shipping companies, the archive of official state sources and the archive of maritime and economic history. These bodies contain, inter alia, nineteenth- and twentieth-century ship diaries and logs, information on the maritime families of various Ionian and Aegean seaports, various publications, magazines and statistical tables on the movement of merchant shipping, the London Custom Reports (1840-1910) on microfilm, reprints of British consular reports to the British administration, as well as reprints of articles, scientific papers, etc. on maritime history. The archive is currently being organized.

The Archive of Greek Theatre of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies includes two archival collections, which relate to theatrical performances of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and which number over 250,000 items.

Bulletins of theatrical performances of Greek troupes
The collection consists of about 250,000 tickets for theatrical performances of Greek troupes of the nineteenth and early twentieth century in cities of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

Theatrical programs & posters of theatrical performances
The archive collection includes over 2,000 theatrical programs of the late twentieth century, mainly from 1960 onwards, but also a small number of programs of the interwar period or even earlier. It also includes a small number of theatrical posters.

The Archive of Art History of the Institute for  Mediterranean Studies includes collections of photographs of works of art, slides, clippings, photocopied articles, posters and exhibition invitations about Domenikos Theotokopoulos. In addition, microfilms of illustrated manuscripts created in Crete during the Venetian rule have been collected as part of a research project on Western art in Crete.

Excerpts & photocopied articles
The collection includes excerpts and photocopied articles from the daily and periodical press, as well as excerpts from books, mainly of the twentieth century, which are related to Domenikos Theotokopoulos.

Posters & invitations
The collection includes posters and invitations from exhibitions about Domenikos Theotokopoulos, which have been organized by IMS.

The Amargianaki Archive is the musicological archive of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH).

The archive corresponds to the deliverables of the four major research projects for which Professor of Ethnomusicology, Georgios Amargianakis (1938-2003) was the scientific supervisor:

1. Greek Traditional Music (IMS-FORTH (RCC) / 1986-1990)
2. Integrated Mediterranean Programs (IMPs) (1991-1994)
3. Thalitas (GSRT-EPET II / 1994-1999) (IMS, DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC STUDIES (UOA))
4. Crinno Music II (Region of Crete - CRINNO / 2000-2006)

The main axis of all Amargianaki’s research projects is the recording of traditional music (recordings, videos and transcriptions) in the field or in music studios.

The research has focused on the recording of Cretan traditional music and has left a legacy of precious archive material, both analogue and digital, such as:

• music recordings of the 1980s on reels
• documentaries from the 1990's that present a wider spectrum of the Cretan culture
• he two major research programmes on the violin and the lyre, Thalita and Crinno Music 2 respectively, which include rich archival material from transcribed interviews, biographical data, photographs and video recordings of Cretan musicians

The Archive of Modern Greek Philology of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies is a product of the research project "Archive of Modern Greek Metrics", which began in January 1990 and was completed in April 1997. The archive consists of 50 files with bibliographic entries.

Archive of Modern Greek Metrics
The archive consists of 50 large folders, where the bibliographic entries are arranged in photocopy or printed form. The Bibliography records the texts, which in whole or in part, refer to modern Greek metric subjects, in a general or specific way. In other words, either these texts generally address one or more issues, per se in the historical period or in a phase of their evolution, or they refer specifically to the stylistic and rhythmic function of poetic (meter) texts, of one or more specific Greek poets (rarely and foreign).

The IMS library has a large number of Greek and foreign newspapers in microfilm, such as Ακρόπολις, Εβδομαδιαία Επιθεώρησις Νεολόγου, Πρωΐα, Atlantis, Constantinople Messenger, Egyptian Gazette, Levant Herald, National Herald, etc.
