Having received my doctorate from the University of Nottingham in 2019, I have since been the holder of two post-doctoral research grants at University College Dublin and at the University of Edinburgh. My research focuses largely on slavery, and in particular the slave system of classical Athens. My forthcoming book with Edinburgh University Press, based on my PhD thesis, is a study of the different slaving strategies in classical Athens and the various effects of these strategies on the lives of Athens’ slaves. I have also published articles and book chapters on aspects of Athenian slavery and ancient Greek slavery, frequently incorporating comparative evidence into my arguments. I am currently working on a project that utilises new qualitative tools and a new methodology to try to answer the previously fraught question of the size of the enslaved population in classical Athens.
