Pavlina Karanastasi

Pavlina Karanastasi was born in Athens in 1956. She is Professor of Classical Archaeology with specialization in Hellenistic and Roman Times at the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Crete. She studied Classical Archaeology, Ancient History and Aegyptology in the University of Heidelberg (1974-1984). She received her Doctorate from the same University. She has taught at the Department of History in the Ionian University of Corfu (1987/88-2005). She has published in Greek, German and English on Art and Society in Roman Greece.

Research interests: Art and Society in Roman Greece, the Iconography and Ideology in Greek-Roman Antiquity, the Greek Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman Sculpture, the Iconography of Roman Emperors, the Romanization/Acculturation and Identity in the Eastern Part of the Roman Empire.
