Kalliopi Vasilaki
Kalliopi Vasilaki is a Post-doctoral fellow in the Center of Maritime History, Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS/FORTH), where she has a three-year contract with funding by the Aegeas Foundation. She aims to study the Maritime Communities in the Eastern Mediterranean, focusing on the island of Ithaca and its maritime culture during the second half of the nineteenth century. She completed her doctoral thesis in 2022, in the Department of History and Archaeology, at the University of Crete on the Maritime Community of La Ciotat (1850-1914). During her PhD, she was a PhD Fellow of the ERC STG 2016 project “SeaLiT: Seafaring Lives in Transition. Maritime Labour and Shipping”, based in the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS/FORTH) with Dr. Apostolos Delis as Principal Investigator. Her research focuses on the history of maritime societies and communities in the Mediterranean during the long nineteenth century, and she has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and collective volumes. She holds a Master's degree in History (School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences/Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris, 2012) and a Bachelor's degree in History and Archeology (University of Crete, 2010).
