Shadow theater in Greece and the Greek diaspora
Collection of handwritten performances of the Puppeteer Vasilaros (Vasilios Andrikopoulos)
The collection consists of 52 medium-sized notebooks (most of them measuring 17x24 and with a different number of pages each) which include approximately 160 handwritten "performances" of Karagiozis. The notebooks were ordered and purchased from the puppeteer by Professors Emeriti Theodoros Hadjipantazis and Grigoris Sifakis and were donated to the Theatre Studies Department of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (FORTH) in 2012. Most of these performances were written during the 1960s and 1970s, shortly after Vasilaros retired from his profession as a puppeteer.
