International meeting
The Institute for Mediterranean Studies-FORTH as part of the ERC STG 2016 'Seafaring Lives in Transition. Mediterranean Maritime Labor and Shipping during Globalization, 1850s-1920s', is organizing the first international meeting on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th October in the lecture hall of IMS, Nick. Foka 130, in Rethymnon.
During the seminar, researchers from the Universities of Barcelona, Genoa, Aix-Marseilles and Crete, will discuss research approaches to Mediterranean and Black Sea shipping issues. The keynote address of the meeting will be on Friday 6 October at 20.00 by Professor Gopalan Balachandran of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, on "Sailors beyond the Seas and the Seas: Modern Seafarers in History and Society".
