This book brings together the perspectives of four important Greek filmmakers on the relationship between cinema and literature: directors Tonis Lykouressis, Sotiris Goritsas and Yannis Lapatas along with screenwriter Maria Vardaka. Using their own films, which are based on literary works, as a starting point the artists discuss their approach to adapting literary texts for the screen and offer valuable information on the stages of this process. The publication includes rich illustrative material that enhances the appreciation of artistic creation and sheds further light on the films discussed: - Slaves in Their Bonds by Tonis Lykouressis, co-written by Maria Vardaka - From the Bones Taken Out (English title: Welcome to All Saints) by Sotiris Goritsas - The Right Pocket of the Robe by Yannis Lapatas The publication is the result of the program titled “Greek Cinema - Film Adaptation: Theory and Practice,” conducted by the Laboratory of Image, Sound and Movement at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies - FORTH, under the auspices and funding of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.
