Postdoc Researcher of GeoSat ReSeArch Lab of F.O.R.T.H. earned the "Endeavour Scholarship and Fellowship - 2017"

Simyrdanis Kleanthis, Postdoc Researcher of GeoSat ReSeArch Lab (Lab of Geophysical Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeoenviroment) of F.O.R.T.H. earned the "Endeavour Scholarship and Fellowship - 2017" from  the Australian Government, Department of Education and Training. The project of Simyrdanis Kleanthis, which will be supervised by Dr. Nikos Papadopoulos (Institute of Mediterranean Studies), will employ innovative geophysical techniques to image the historic barge "Crowie" (an important shipwreck). Unique methods in underwater Electrical Resistivity Tomographies will be applied with the strengths of the Department of Archaeology at Flinders University in Maritime Archaeology, Geomatics and Oral History Recording. The aims of this project are: i) to detect the non-visible submerged remains of the Crowie shipwreck, ii) to provide the first systematic recording and, consequently, the first comprehensive site plan of the visible and non-visible parts of the Crowie, iii) to develop an effective interdisciplinary survey methodology that could be applied to any similar survey in coastal and/or shallow-water environments, through the employment of the combined geoinfomation methodologies (GPS mapping and geophysical prospection) with the underwater and coastal site recording.

The project will be completed within a period of five months from July to December 2017.
